July ruby, September sapphire, May emerald and June alexandrite are sold lab-created, the same mineral as mined; garnet, amethyst, peridot, citrine and topaz are cheap even natural; and April diamond can be moissanite. The one word to avoid is "simulated", which means glass or cubic zirconia. Pendants and studs avoid ring sizing; a mother's ring with each child's stone is the most personal choice.
